The City of Munich
Munich (Minga in Bavarian dialect) is the state capital of the Free State of Bavaria. With around 1.4 million inhabitants, it is the largest city in Bavaria and the third-largest city in the Federal Republic of Germany. Munich is an urban district and in addition, the seat of the District Office and the District Council of Upper Bavaria. Munich is furthermore, the centre of the Munich planning region, in which more than 2.6 million people live, and of the European metropolitan region of Munich, with around 5.5 million inhabitants. In the city ranking according to quality of life and personal safety, taken using the 50 largest cities in the world, Munich holds once the fourth position and once the 11th position.
